What to pack in your travel health kit
Before going out of the country, most of us always prepare our travel essentials. We pack our clothes, shoes, cameras, documents, toiletries, and other materials that we can use for leisure. However, most of us forget that during our travel, we may get sick or acquire an accidental injury. Thus, packing a travel health kit is a must when preparing to out of the country.
An ideal travel health kit is something that can be easily carried. It also contains the essentials depending on 3 factors:
1. Pre-Existing Medical conditions
Think of any condition that you may have (e.g. diabetes, allergies, high blood pressure) and pack your maintenance or go-to medicines for those. This would lessen the trouble of having to go to a pharmacy in a foreign country and having to go through language barrier.
If you can, try to research on the local diseases in the area where you’re traveling and if medical care/pharmacies are nearby. If you’re going to the tropics, and especially if you're travelling in Asia, pack mosquito repellant or insect bite prevention supplies. If the location is isolated and far away from medical care, it's best to bring a first aid kit.
Are you going hiking? Surfing? Camping? Activities expose you to different kinds of injuries and it will be smart to stock-up on materials for immediate first aid.
At the very least, though, here are some basic supplies you should put into your travel health kit:
- Medicines for fever, colds, pain, and stomach issues
- Allergy medicines
- Antiseptic wipes
- Topical cream for insect stings and bites
